The Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO) is an Estate funded University located in the metropolitan area of the city of Seville, Andalusia (Spain). Created to endow the Region of Andalusia with a university of excellence, it has approximately 12.000 students and over 1.000 lecturers, and its academic offer ranges from bachelor degrees to doctoral levels in a wide variety of academic fields.
UPO is a high profile research University and this has been confirmed in 2009, 2010, and 2011 in a National research productivity report (top 3 on the rankings). Research is undertaken by more than 95 Research Groups of recognized international significance. Among these, the “Coastal Environments Research Group” (RNM-911), linked with UPO’s Physical Geography Area, focuses on the fields of Coastal morphodynamics, numerical modeling of the surf zone, Integrated Coastal Zone Management, prospective assessments, stakeholders analysis and participatory-based studies for ICZM, coastal carrying capacity assessments, or coastal and marine spatial planning, among other research lines supported by competitive projects funded by the European Union, United Nations Environment Programme, the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science or the Andalusian Regional Government.
